From Theseus to Spiderman, if there's one thing in the world Benji Lee adores, it's heroes. Maybe it stems from when he was just four-years-old, clutching his father's hand and covering his eyes during the "scary parts" of The Incredibles, only to immediately attempt to run around like Dash in the parking lot of the theater afterwards. Maybe it was the countless times he peered over his brother's shoulder as they read the first in a new stack of X-Men comics from the library on a rainy Boston afternoon. Or maybe it was hearing stories of his uncle's charity work from his mother over breakfast in the morning, staring into his pancakes and wondering at the achievements of a true modern-day hero. No matter what it was that started it all, Benji's never been able to escape that fascination. If anything it simply grows with each new day.

Growing up wasn't a tough deal in the Lee household. Both Benji and his older brother, Milo, had everything they could ever dream of wanting. Sure, Dad was usually busy, but the boys had each other for entertainment. And Mom, of course. She took them everywhere - the zoo, the park, the beach in North Carolina, snowboarding in Colorado, camping in California. Name any state, Benji's footprints are probably there somewhere.

It all sounds like sunshine and rainbows, right? Like maybe the worst thing to ever happen to the Lees was when Benji broke his arm climbing a tree one summer? For Benji, that's completely true. And he'll happily recount that story in excruciating detail. But a closer look reveals something much darker at the source of such a happy life. After all, money has to come from somewhere. And that place for Benji's father is a seemingly inconspicuous seafood restaurant in the South End, passed onto him by his uncle years ago. You've probably heard of money laundering - using fronts like restaurants to cover up some less than legal activities. Let's just say the Lee family has always been mixed up with some not-so-friendly people. But this type of thing sure pays off. As long as you don't get caught. So far, they've been lucky. But luck has to run out eventually.

In that sort of business, you need young people, to learn how to keep things moving, take over when the old fellas have had their fill. An 18th birthday for a young man in the Lee household means much more than graduation or a new car. It means initiation into the family business - whether voluntary or not. It happened to Milo. And it sure as hell would've happened to Benji too. But his mother wasn't going to lose another son to the machine, especially not a boy like Benji, with so much heart and potential. So she got him an early birthday present - a one-way ticket out of the country, straight to Seoul to live with his uncle. Benji, being himself, didn't question a thing, happily accepting an opportunity to travel and get more experience volunteering. It's no secret that Benji's not exactly the brightest in the bunch, but what he lacks in brainpower, he makes up for twofold in passion, heart, and moral standing. So, still blissfully unaware of his family's crimes, he boarded a plane to Seoul just after graduation, happy and excited to start a new life in a new country.

That's not to say that moving to an entirely new place is easy. But he's doing his best, having learned Korean slowly but surely, helping with his uncle's charity work, and even finding a job as an assistant to the park rangers at Bukhansan. Sure, he's a little rough around the edges. When you first see him, you might think he could knock your teeth out. But once he flashes a smile, one so genuine it even works its way up into his eyes, you know there's no way in hell he could hurt anyone. Well, unless that someone was hurting someone else. Then he'd have to knock their teeth out. But that's what heroes do, right? They protect the ones they love, no matter what the cost. And that's all Benji's ever wanted - to be a hero.
